The Day of Freedom 'King'

This is the day of all who have a dream!

This is the day to remember nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement.

This is the day to curse racial discrimination.

This is the day to honor the anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr!

During contract negotiations labor unions began promoting the idea of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to be a holiday. With the support of corporate community and public the campaign turned into a phenomenon. In 1981 Stevie Wonder released his "Happy Birthday" in memory of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Despite Ronald Reagan's oppositions for the campaign for holiday, the federal holiday honoring King was signed into law in 1983 and was put into action three years later.

By 1991, all U.S. states came to the point to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, with different names:

Robert E. Lee/Martin Luther King Birthday in Alabama
Martin Luther King Jr./Civil Rights Day in Arizona
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert E. Lee's Birthdays in Arkansas
Martin Luther King Jr.-Idaho Human Rights Day in Idaho
Martin Luther King's and Robert E. Lee's Birthdays in Mississippi
Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Day in New Hampshire
Lee–Jackson–King Day in Virginia

Let the dreams of Civil Rights come true!
